NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — New York City’s Greek-American community celebrated the 200th anniversary of Greek Independence Day on Thursday.

Mayor Bill de Blasio was on hand for a small celebration at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.

For the second straight year, the traditional parade was canceled due to the pandemic.

On March 25, 1821, Greece declared its independence from the Ottoman Empire.
